The purpose of this particular blog is to explain the development process of a website in my own terms. There are 7 steps to building a site:
The first step is to come up with an idea for a website and research it. How is it going to work? What is it going to look like? What will make people want to visit the site?
The second step is to create and organize the content that will go on the site. Will there be things to do on it? Will there be something to buy that attracts people to the site? Will there be credible reading material?
The third step is to develop the look of the site. What colors will you use? What kind of theme do you think will help draw people to the site?
The fourth step is to put together the website to where all of the features mesh well.
The fifth step is to test the site. Does everything work the way it’s supposed to? Are there any typos?
The sixth step is to launch the site. Everything is done now. Let the world see your hard work!
The seventh and final step (which is ongoing) is to maintain the site. You have to keep the information current and correct so that people still want to visit your website.
I think that if I were to be a part of the design process, I would have to be one of the testers. I’m somewhat of a perfectionist so I would be good at catching typos.
